Portland, September 26th, 2013. Filling 223 seats at The World Forestry Center’s Miller Hall member volunteers and guests of Assistance League® Greater Portland enjoyed fashions by Chico’s Bridgeport, lunch by Vibrant Table and music by Charles Suniga. President Kay Gebhart, KPTV news anchor Shauna Parsons and member volunteer Sally Rove helped launch the event. “Kids are the Stars of Tomorrow,” was the theme of the fundraiser for Operation School Bell® which provides new clothes for children in need in the Beaverton and Hillsboro School Districts raised almost $25,000 for the program. The audience was moved by the appeal given by local television news anchor Shauna Parsons – many with tears in their eyes as they wrote checks, filled out credit card forms or put cash in their envelopes. Chairman of the event, Allison Mudrick, credits the success of the event from the support of board members Kay Gebhart, Carol Bergseng and Carol Bray, chapter members and guests, sponsors, donors, the location, lunch, entertainment by Charles and the appeal given by Ms. Parsons.
A worthy cause supported by extremely dedicated volunteers of the Assistance League led to a delightful event for the participants, and helped provide clothes for kids in need. Thank you, Allison, for all your hard work and including me in your entourage in sharing this special day. The music by Charles Suniga, a Portland hidden treasure, set such a nice mood. It’s always fun to see what Chico’s has in store for the latest stylish trends. Shauna Parsons certainly led us to look into our hearts and pocketbooks. The chldren are not the only beneficiaries….we were, also.
It is indeed a very worthy cause. Thank you Allison and your committee. Great job.
Thanks for your continued support of Assistance League. We would not be where we are without your mentoring.
Allison Mudrick did a marvelous job of organizing this event, The Chico’s Fashion Show, for the purpose of helping to clothe children in need through the program, Operation School Bell. It is only one of the philanthropic programs that the Assistance League of Greater Portland sponsors with the funds they make in their Thrift and Consignment Shops. They also have the Assault Suvivor Kit program with seven hospitals providing clothing for victims when their clothing is kept as crime evidence. Life Story Books are for children leaving foster care as they go to their new families and homes. A great nonprofit organization with dedicated volunteers!
Hi Joan,
Thanks for sharing what we do with our other programs. Your dedication to always go the one step beyond is greatly appreciated. You looked great in the outfits you modeled, are you going shopping?
Yes, tomorrow…
Nancy, thank you for attending our fundraising fashion show luncheon and for introducing Charles to me as well as members of Assistance League. His touch along with Shauna’s appeal help make this event memorable and successful.
Thank you, Allison and committee. It was a beautiful event and Shauna Parson’s plea brought tears to my eyes. It was wonderful to see so many people there supporting a very worth while cause.

This was a lovely luncheon! I enjoyed that the Chico’s fashions were modeled by the Assistance League volunteers and offered style tips we could all use. The best part was knowing that our participation would provide brand new clothing for local school children in need through the Assistance League’s Operation School Bell program. As guest speaker Shauna Parsons reminded us, children should not have to wear their poverty to school.
I’m so glad you attended the fashion show luncheon. I’m anxious to know more about Chicagoland West’s signature event.
Thanks Virgeen, many of our member volunteers worked very hard on this event. It was terrific to have you model the clothes and add a little pizzazz to the program. Shauna Parsons was an excellent choice to talk about Operation School Bell® and of course, Charles Suniga provides wonderful entertainment.
What a wonderful event!! I was in town visiting my sister, who is a member of the Assistance League, and I accompanied her to the fashion show luncheon. Every aspect of the day was first class. The fashions from Chico’s were wonderful and I throughly enjoyed the music provided by Charles Suniga and Shauna Parsons definitely touch my heart. Operation School Bell is a fantastic program and I am very happy that I had the opportunity to learn about it.
Naniscah works very hard for Assistance League®. You should be very proud of all she has done for us. She does a great job running the Thrift Shop which supports our programs. Come visit us in April and attend our Vintage Hollywood: A Black and White Affair. It will be outstanding and a lot of fun!
