HomeWord Bound Benefit Raises Money for Affordable Housing

Portland, April 8th 2016. Community Partners for Affordable Housing (CPAH) held its eighteenth annual “HomeWord Bound” fundraiser at the Oregon Zoo. It’s CPAH’s signature fundraiser and includes dinner, silent auction, and local authors signing books available for purchase. CPAH provides safe and healthy affordable housing along with support and skill building activities, like after-school programs, for individuals and families. The nonprofit hosted over a dozen Northwest authors this year at HomeWord Bound. Sheila Hamilton author of “All the Things We Never Knew” was on hand. Her memoir is about loving and losing someone with mental illness, in this case, her husband, David.

Jackson is a recently-named TED2016 Fellow, and he is the critically-acclaimed author of “The Residue Years” (Multnomah County Library’s Everybody Reads selection for 2015, winner of The Ernest Gaines Award for Literary Excellence, and finalist for the Center for Fiction’s Flaherty-Dunnan First Novel prize, the PEN/Hemingway award for first fiction, The Hurston/Wright Legacy Award for best fiction by a writer of African descent, and other accolades).

Sheila Hamilton was a featured speaker as was Mitchell S. Jackson. His critically-acclaimed “The Residue Years” is a finalist for the Center for Fiction’s Flaherty-Dunnan First Novel prize, the PEN/Hemingway award for first fiction, The Hurston/Wright Legacy Award for best fiction by a writer of African descent, and other accolades.

The event included an auction to raise money for Community Partners for Affordable Housing.
