Meridian Park Medical Foundation Approves Over $200,000 in Grants

Tualatin, OR. The Healing Garden will be getting some extra TLC at Meridian Park Medical Center. The Meridian Park Medical Foundation has approved grants totaling more than $200,000 to support many programs including new technology, education and charity care at Legacy Meridian Park Medical Center.

The grants include $57,500 to purchase a SAVI Scout – a device designed to make breast cancer surgery easier for women and more efficient for health care providers. Instead of using wires to mark a tumor’s location, this new technology uses a small reflector implanted by a radiologist up to 30 days prior to surgery, which reduces the patient’s wait time and enhances their overall experience.

The foundation also approved:

  • $20,000 to help patients pay for medical equipment and other necessities;
  • $20,000 to pay for prescriptions for patients who can’t afford them;
  • $16,540 was allocated to support maintenance of the Healing Garden.

In all, the foundation approved $216,000 in grants to 29 funds that support Legacy Meridian Park. The foundation advocates and raises funds for Meridian Park Medical Center – part of Legacy Health – the largest local, nonprofit health care provider in Oregon and Southwest Washington.

“These grants reflect the generosity of the Meridian Park Medical Center community,” said Rod Cruickshank, foundation board chair. “We’re fortunate to have donors so committed to our mission.”

Legacy Meridian Park is the South Metro area’s most advanced medical center. Specialty services include neurology, orthopedic surgery, cancer care and a chest pain center awarded the nation’s first Gold Seal of approval in chest pain by The Joint Commission – the nation’s principal hospital accreditation agency.

Additionally, a new trustee joined the Legacy Meridian Park Medical Foundation board. Sean S. Harper, M.D., is a family medicine physician and the medical director of Legacy Medical Group in Lake Oswego.
