Inside, Portland Opera fans reveled in the classical favorites. “We’re pulling out all the stops for an evening of unabashed Opera celebration,” said Portland Opera General Director Christopher Mattaliano. The evening featured a mix of favorite opera arias, duets, choruses and orchestral pieces. All proceeds from the benefit concert were earmarked for the Portland Opera’s education programs which, Christopher Mattaliano explains, “are among the best in the nation and a great source of pride for us and our community.”

Portland, September 11th. An outdoor arts showcase whet the appetite for outstanding fall cultural fare. Oregon Ballet Theatre and other members of the Portland arts community celebrated the beginning of the Fall Arts Season with a day of performance, demonstration, community outreach and 9/11 remembrances. The free outdoor event at Director Park was made possible by sponsorship from The Boeing Company.

Many of the arts organizations are participating in a cross-promotional event called the “Portland Arts Dance Card.” The program helps arts lovers earn gift certificates for dinner and other cultural opportunities.
Portland, September 1st. An estimated 15-thousand people enjoyed the sounds of the Oregon Symphony at its annual free outdoor concert. The concert was supported by the City of Portland, Regional Arts and Culture Council (RACC) Work for Art, and NW Natural.

Closing festivities included the traditional grand finale — Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, complete with military cannons from the Oregon Army National Guard 218th Field Artillery.

In May 2011 Kalmar made his New York debut at Carnegie Hall with the Oregon Symphony as part of the inaugural Spring for Music festival.
The Oregon Symphony produces more than 80 concerts a year, mostly at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall in Portland. It programs a wide range of music to suit many tastes and preferences. The symphony currently has 76 professional musicians on contract. The free Waterfront Park concert is the kick off to the Oregon Symphony’s 2011-2012 season.

Launched in 1981, the gallery has focused on presenting prominent Northwest and internationally established artists working in a wide variety of contemporary media. Leach, “Works to bolster a dynamic dialogue between the local community and the global art world.”

Automobile lover and Tonight Show host, Jay Leno, took in a “hoods up” viewing of the Allure of the Automobile exhibit at the Portland Art Museum. The event on August 13th was one of the highlights of the stylish exhibit.

Leno’s love of cars is legendary. He owns one of the largest private collections of automobiles in the country.

According to Brian Ferriso, “This exhibition is especially meaningful for our city, which has a significant number of graphic and industrial design students, practitioners, and businesses. I am confident that the extraordinary automobile designs in the exhibition will be an inspiration for many.”

Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival is the largest blues festival on the West Coast andthe second largest blues festival
in the nation. It benefits the Oregon Food Bank programs.
Annually it attracts more than 100,000 blues fans from throughout the world. There are more the 125 performances on five stages.

110 booths featuring fine arts and crafts drew thousands to the beautiful lakeside community.
Passionate artists offered their eye-catching works at the Lake Oswego Festival of the Arts June 24th – 26th.
At the Lakewood Center for the Arts, several different art exhibits
were featured. The largest exhibit was the Visual Arts Open Show with over
1,100 pieces of art submitted by artists from all over the region.
Festival draws fans
In addition, the Festival also presented a Special Juried Exhibit of fine artwork as well as
a series of hands-on arts activities. The Festival also partnered with the Lake
Oswego School District to present a high quality K-12 exhibit and the Lake
Oswego Foundation for the Arts to provide the Lake Oswego Arts Chronicle, an invited
visual art exhibit. The Festival, a sub division of the Lakewood Center for the
Arts, a non-profit arts center, is committed to arts education, performance and
exhibition.
Portland, OR. A member’s only event at the Portland Art Museum brought car lovers to the venerable institution. The Allure of the Automobile showcases 16 of the world’s most luxurious, rare, and brilliantly conceived automobiles designed between 1930 and the mid-1960s.
On display are 16 of the world’s most luxurious and rare automobiles.
Many see the automobiles as Art.
From the avant garde 1937 Hispano-Suiza owned by French apéritif baron André Dubonnet to the ultra-cool convertible 1957 Jaguar XK-SS Roadster once owned by Hollywood legend Steve McQueen, the exhibition traces the evolution of the motorcar, showcasing developments in automotive design and engineering.
The cars could draw up to 100,000 visitors over the next few months.
