Portland, October 19th, 2013. The Oregon Food Bank raised over $500,000 at its Oregon Harvest Dinner. Nearly 500 supporters turned out at the benefit. Funds provide support for OFB’s work to secure and distribute food through the OFB Network, and to find solutions to hunger through innovative programs. Last fiscal year, for the second consecutive year, over one million emergency food boxes were distributed by OFB. Distribution of food boxes has increased 41 percent in the past five years, and where there’s higher demand, there must be higher supply.

“We’re so fortunate to be able to hold this event in our warehouse, so we want to ensure that the warehouse is part of the event and the decor,” said OFB Special Events Coordinator, Tracey Walker of the more authentic warehouse atmosphere. “West Coast Event Productions has done a great job at highlighting the food stored in the warehouse, and hiding the not so pretty parts with little creative touches that are rough, rustic, and fun.”

To eliminate hunger and its root causes … because no one should be hungry.
What is Oregon Food Bank?
With sufficient public will and support of the entire community, we believe it is possible to eliminate hunger and its root causes. Oregon Food Bank collects and distributes food through a network of four OFB branches and 16 independent regional food banks serving Oregon and southwest Washington. The Event Emcee was Shauna Parsons from Fox12.
The Event Chair was Barbara Swanson, Oregonian Media Group. In a message to supporters, she explained the following:
“Heart disease isn’t just a man’s problem. It’s a woman’s problem, too. In fact, it’s the No. 1 killer of women. And, tragically, far too few women realize their risk from this preventable disease. We need to raise women’s awareness of their risk and protect our mothers, daughters, sisters, friends and ourselves.
You can help, starting today. Here’s how:
First, take charge of your own heart health. Visit your doctor. Know your numbers………
(learn more at www.GoRedForWomen.org). You can improve your blood pressure, cholesterol and other numbers by making lifestyle changes. You’ll be healthier and look and feel better, too.
Second, join the American Heart Association in making it your mission to fight heart disease in women. Help spread the word that heart disease is women’s No. 1 killer. Share what you learn today and make a commitment to tell five women you want them to live.
Third and last, consider attending or sponsoring the October 10 luncheon, making a contribution or setting up fundraising webpage to support Go Red For Women. Your donation today will make a difference in the lives of women here and across the country. You can help fund local and national Go Red activities that support awareness, research, education and community programs that benefit women.”
