Portland, November 9th, 2013. Over 500 people gathered at the Portland Art Museum to to support the “I Have a Dream” Oregon in its efforts to launch a generation of students on a path to college. At the benefit, “I Have a Dream” students and staff had a chance to pose with Timber Joey.
It was the organization’s 5th annual Dream Big event. The fundraiser was the largest and most successful to date – supporting a generation of students from low-income communities on a path to college, career and economic independence.
“The event’s energy was electrifying!” declared fans. “I Have a Dream” Dreamer Alumna, Dr. Alisha-Moreland Capuia, a Stanford grad and one of only a few African American female psychiatrists in the state of Oregon, gave a powerful keynote address on the importance of supporting low-income communities.
Funds raised from the event will support more than 1,200 low-income students in achieving 100% on-time graduation from high school and 80% post-secondary completion.
